Sign of the Times

I saw this sign put up in a couple of different locations in Dakhiliya district. In honor of Ramadan and the situation here it reads, "The best fasting (you can perform) is to (abstain) from your brother's blood," ie. from killings and murder.
Traditionally, we learn that fasting in the month of Ramadan is to abstain from eating, drinking and spousal relations from sun-up to sun-down. Here in Iraq, another basic point has to be emphasized.

Wow Im impressed. Its abt time they try to bring some sense, you never know, even if its one person reading this and thinking "wow, this is so true, maybe I should stop being a killer" makes it one less criminal in this jungle...Altho I doubt bes you gotta be hopeful...

I still can't believe that the situation has detiorated to such an extent. I can't imagine how bad one's life would have to be to drive them to turn a gun on a fellow human being. Have we sunk that low? Or have we always been there I wonder...

It's extremely shameful that people have to be reminded of such things. I wonder who it is that has been putting up these signs. Have they been effective at all?
