Great Post on Situation in Lebanon

The situation in Lebanon and Gaza greatly pains everyone, but for Iraqis, it hits home in a very personal way. Read Baghdad Treasure's latest post on this.
One of our family friends in the States travelled to Lebanon this past month with her husband and four young children. She left the kids with her family and took a little side vacation to Morocco with her husband. The bombing started soon after, and now she's stuck somewhere far from her elementary school age children, regretting her little time off and scared to death over their safety.
May this craziness stop soon, and may the lives off all innocents be spared.

This craziness has hit too close to home for me. My family lives in Haifa and I have a daughter travelling right now and Haifa is on her way at the end of the month. Someone needs to do a ceasefire!!!

Halla,
I really hope that your family stays safe and is unaffected by this horror. My thoughts are with you and all others until this ends. It becomes especially real when someone you know is affected. Take care.

MY GOODNESS halla ... when's your daughter travelling? Is she somewhere around here now already??

What's going on there is so horrible .. I don't have words anymore! I have friends in Saida who will or have already been cut off entirly - they have a five year and a eight months old baby!! Till now I can reach them ... for several days I had no idea if they're still alive at all!!
So many innocent people dies or suffer ... and half a million is displaced! What a nightmare! Halla, I pray for the safety of your daughter ... I hope to GOD this horror will be over soon!!

Hi Fatima and Karin,

Thank you for asking and caring!!

My daughter has changed her plans at the urging of family their. They are not in a position to receive company right now, no one is going to work, staying at home or in a bunker, can't even get a taxi from the airport cause no one wants to drive to Haifa from Telaviv.

She is coming home earlier than planned and is now in Split, Croatia not having a great time and is due to go to Budapest. She had decided not to go to Germany on this trip but at a later time, probably should have stuck with Germany after all. She is very dissapointed

One big mess thanx to over-reaction by Israel!! Poor Lebanon they were on the brink of returning back to normal, I always had thoughts of someday going there but it will be a long time now. And of course the Palestinians in Gaza, thought they caught a break with attention going to Lebanon but did not happen! Sorry am rambling.....it just makes you feel so helpless....

Am watching the news constantly and read blogs (especially ones coming out of Haifa) all the time, I believe the blogs are more accurate than american news! Everytime a missle hits Haifa I get anxious but when it hit Nazareth that was the clincher for my daughter (she thought she can be safe there being an arab town) but not safe anywhere.

Update:

No airline wants to change her tickets without rebooking the whole thing, they tell her travel to Telaviv has not been restricted, no reason for it.....so after she spoke to a cousin in Nazareth, he said he would pick her up from telaviv and take her there. At least its a little safer (after all Nasrallah apoligized for hitting Nazareth a few days ago) but she will be coming back allot sooner. She just thought that if she hast to go to Telaviv anyway she might as well see some relatives, not waste her trip totally.

I am praying on the odds, considering no one in my family has been hurt yet, been affected yes! hurt physically no! hurt economically YES!

Wow Halla, crazy and unfair, and sadly, reality. I hope the best for her.

I hope your friends family is Ok, I really wish the U.S. and U.K. would stop blocking attempts at mediating a ceasefire, perhaps something will come of the international talks underway soon in rome regarding sending a multi-national (though not including americans) peacekeeping force to the area...

*sigh*

Thank you guys, my daughter is headed to Israel, she has tried to fly out of Budapest, Munich & Frankfurt and not one single seat was available for another 2 weeks! Can't afford to stay room, board & entertainment staying in another country (even though she would have enjoyed budapest another few days) staying with family allot cheaper....She is being taken to Nazareth and has been warned by family to stay out of Haifa! Have a cousin who is a travel agent & he is going to get her out ASAP!
